Lakers Advance to NBA Playoffs with 110-106 Victory over Pelicans
Los Angeles Earns Second Consecutive Win in New Orleans, Secures Playoff Berth
The Los Angeles Lakers outlasted a spirited New Orleans Pelicans comeback in a back-and-forth fourth quarter to secure a 110-106 victory on ESPN on April 16, 2024. The win propelled the Lakers into the NBA Playoffs and earned them a second consecutive triumph in the Big Easy.
The Lakers and Pelicans traded blows throughout the first half, with Los Angeles holding a slim 55-53 advantage at the break. The Pelicans, however, made a strong push in the third quarter, outscoring the Lakers 32-22 to take an 85-77 lead heading into the final period.
The fourth quarter was a tense affair, with neither team able to gain a significant edge. The Lakers eventually pulled away in the final minutes, thanks in part to a clutch three-pointer from Anthony Davis with 1:20 remaining.
LeBron James led the Lakers with 28 points, seven rebounds, and seven assists. Davis added 25 points and 12 rebounds, while Russell Westbrook contributed 17 points and eight rebounds off the bench.
Brandon Ingram paced the Pelicans with 40 points, but it wasn't enough to prevent New Orleans from falling short. Zion Williamson added 24 points and 10 rebounds, while CJ McCollum chipped in with 17 points.
With the victory, the Lakers improved to 42-30 on the season and secured a spot in the NBA Playoffs. The Pelicans, meanwhile, fell to 32-40 and saw their playoff hopes dashed.
